In 2022, the Microbiome Research group made significant progress in understanding the human microbiome in relation to both health and inflammatory bowel diseases. They also investigated the impact of probiotics on the modulation of gut microbiota. Furthermore, they established one of the most comprehensive databases for studying fungi in the human microbiome. Additionally, the group proposed the microbiome as a potential indicator of COVID-19 severity in critically ill patients. These research endeavors align with two key topics of the Institute: “Global Health” and “Personalized Medicine, Innovative Diagnostics.”The group successfully secured a postdoctoral fellowship through the Sara Borell Program (CD22/00177). They have also published five papers as primary authors, all in quartile 1. One doctoral candidate defended her thesis under the group’s supervision. Recognizing their research achievements, the group received funding from la Generalitat de Catalunya (2021 SGR 00459).
