We have continued to develop the FEDER-funded Personalized Surgery Service in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Our Service has implemented the use of Loop-X, one of the very few CBCT scans available in Europe for intraoperatively acquired image-guided surgery. Our Service is working in a proof-of-concept study to explore the feasibility, accuracy, and utility of intraoperative images in maxillofacial surgery. Preliminary results have shown that the use of Loop-X can assist surgical decision-making, reduce the need for secondary surgeries, and decrease surgical time, complications and costs in oral and maxillofacial surgery. We have also consolidated our research line on oral pre-malignant disorders (OPMDs), and we now belong to the INTercEption of oRal CancEr development (INTERCEPT) COST Action aimed at developing a new multidisciplinary approach and at reorganizing disease care management for the prevention of the malignant transformation of OPMDs.
